Information Visitors Submit
Queries Sent Through Search
A name, county, location, or other term entered into a search tool is transmitted to the third-party provider that operates the search. That provider processes the query under its own privacy terms. New Hanover County Released Inmates does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. Visitors should avoid entering sensitive information that the search function does not request.
Messages Sent to Us
Information included in an email or contact submission is retained as needed to read the request, reply, and maintain the related correspondence. A message may include the sender’s name, email address, and any details the sender chooses to provide. We do not share contact messages outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law, a valid legal process, or a binding government order.

Cookies and Similar Storage
Cookies may be used to remember basic settings, measure how visitors move through the site, and support analytics or advertising. Browser controls can block or remove cookies. Some functions, preferences, or partner services may then behave differently. Cookies placed by an analytics company, advertising network, or search provider are controlled by that company and subject to its own policy.
How Information Supports the Site
Collected information is used only for operating, measuring, protecting, and improving the service. Common uses include:

Privacy Beyond Our Links
Pages may link to New Hanover County release records, the sheriff’s inmate inquiry, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction resources, courts, NC SAVAN, federal or immigration systems, legal resources, and third-party search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination’s privacy policy and data practices control. We do not manage how those sites collect, retain, disclose, or secure information.
Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technology on their own systems to measure visits or select interest-based advertising across websites. Their collection does not become a New Hanover County government record and is not controlled by this site. Visitors should review the privacy and opt-out tools supplied by each provider.

New Hanover County Released Inmates does not sell personal information. Limited data may be sent or disclosed when needed for the functions described in this notice:
- Search partners that receive and process submitted queries
- Analytics providers that measure visits and page performance
- Advertising networks that deliver or assess advertisements

Reasonable Security Measures
We use standard administrative and technical practices intended to guard information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. Security is a continuing effort, not a guarantee. No internet transmission, connected system, storage method, or third-party service can be promised as completely secure or breach-proof. Visitors provide information and use outbound services with that limitation in mind.
Visitors Younger Than Eighteen
This service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly request or collect personal information from anyone under 18. A parent or legal guardian who believes a minor submitted personal information may use the Contact Us page to request review and deletion. Reasonable steps will be taken to locate and remove the information when the request can be verified.
Choices About Personal Data
Subject to applicable law, identity verification, and the limits of data actually held by this site, a visitor may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information we maintain about that visitor
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Delete personal information that no longer must be retained
- Opt out of certain processing when an applicable right permits it
These requests apply to information controlled by this site. Requests about a sheriff record, North Carolina court record, DAC record, search-partner query, analytics profile, or advertising identifier must be directed to the organization that controls that information.
